Dr Mariëtte Rothman

Clinical & Radiation Oncologist

Dr Mariëtte Rothman joined the team of Clinical and Radiation Oncologists at the Namibian Oncology Centre in March 2023, having completed her MBChB at the University of Stellenbosch in 2011 and her MMed in Radiation Oncology from the University of the Free State in 2019. Dr Rothman worked in the Universitas Hospital's Annex Oncology department before moving back to her hometown of Windhoek in late 2022. She is a compassionate, holistic medical practitioner who prioritises her patients' needs during their treatment.

Dr Marthinus Kahl

Clinical & Radiation Oncologist

Dr Marthinus Kahl was awarded his MBChB degree from the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa in 1995. He completed his Internship at the Universitas/Pelonomi/National Hospital complex in 1996 and went on to practice as a Medical Officer in the accident and emergency department of the Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, England until January 1998. He worked as a Medical Officer in the Oncology department of the Universitas Annex Hospital in Bloemfontein, South Africa, for one year before becoming a Registrar in the same department. He completed his MMed. post-graduate degree in Radiation Oncology from the University of the Free State in 2002. Dr Kahl went on to work as a Consultant in the Oncology department of the Universitas Annex Hospital from 2003 until 2006 when he was promoted to Senior Specialist Oncologist in the same department. He fulfilled this role until 2010 when he was promoted to Head of the Clinical Unit/Principal Specialist. Dr Kahl joined the team at the Namibian Oncology Centre in January 2016.

Dr Sybil Eksteen

Clinical & Radiation Oncologist

Dr Sybil Eksteen joined the team at NOC in May 2018 as a Clinical and Radiation Oncologist. Dr Eksteen graduated from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, with an MBChB in 2004 and then with an MMed in Radiation Oncology, as well as an FC Rad (Radiation Oncology) from the Colleges of Medicine South Africa in 2012. She worked as an Oncologist in private practice with Dr Visser, Loots and partners in Bellville, Cape Town until April 2018.

Dr Laina Iiyambo

Clinical & Radiation Oncologist

Dr Laina Iiyambo completed her undergraduate degree in Medicine at Saratov State Medical University in 2010 and worked as a Medical Officer in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department of the Windhoek Hospitals Complex for one year before transferring to the Oncology department in 2013 for 2 years. She studied an M.Med in Radiation Oncology through the University of Stellenbosch and FC Radiation Oncology through the College of Medicine South Africa, completing both in 2019. Dr Iiyambo joined the Radiation Oncology department at the AB May Cancer Care Centre at Windhoek Central Hospital in January 2020 and our team at NOC under limited private practice in February 2020. She is a keen advocate for cancer patients and dedicated to furthering oncology care in Namibia.

Dr Mtabeni Jemu

Clinical & Radiation Oncologist

Dr Mtabeni Jemu was awarded his Master of Medicine in Radiation Oncology Degree from the University of Cape Town in 2017. He is also a Fellow of the College of Radiation Oncologists of South Africa. Dr Jemu has been involved in cancer care since 2012 across hospitals in Malawi, South Africa and Namibia. He has a special interest in early diagnosis and the establishment of oncology services in Southern Africa. Dr Jemu joined the team at NOC in Windhoek in June 2021 and visits Ondangwa regularly to assist patients in the northern regions of Namibia.

PAEDIATRIC ONCOLOGIST

Dr Lilian Gesami-Steytler

Paediatric Oncologist

Dr Lilian Gesami-Steytler became the first Paediatric Oncologist in Namibia after graduating with a sub-specialist Certificate in Medical Oncology from the College of Paediatricians of South Africa and the University of Stellenbosch's Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Paediatric Haematology/Oncology in 2018. Prior to her studies in Paediatric Oncology, Dr Gesami-Steytler worked as a Paediatrician in the Ministry of Health and Social Services in Windhoek and ran a successful limited private practice at Rhino Park and Lady Pohamba Private Hospitals. She also previously worked as a part-time lecturer for the University of Namibia's School of Medicine, lecturing in paediatrics and child health and was chairperson of the Infection Control team at Rhino Park Private Hospital. Dr Gesami-Steytler completed her MBChB through the University of Nairobi in 2005 and later went on to specialize in Paediatrics at the University of the Witwatersrand, qualifying in 2013. Dr Gesami-Steytler has had intensive training in Haemophilia, bleeding and thrombotic disorders as well as infectious diseases in children and completed an MSc in Infectious Diseases through the long-distance academy of the University of London's London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She continues to work as a consultant Paediatric Oncologist at the Ministry of Health and Social Services in Windhoek and runs a limited private practice from the Namibian Oncology Centre.

Dr Fanouska Blom

Medical Officer

Dr. Fanouska Blom is a dedicated general practitioner with over a decade of experience across Namibia’s healthcare system. She earned her MBChB from the University of Pretoria in 2012 and has since worked in both public and private sectors. Passionate about women’s health, preventative care, and long-term wellness, she brings a calm, thorough approach to every consultation. Since joining the Namibian Oncology Centre in 2019, Dr. Blom has become a trusted support figure for patients navigating cancer and other chronic illnesses.

Dr. Carel Nel

Medical Officer

Dr. Carel Nel is a general practitioner with a background in both pulmonology and oncology. After completing a B.Tech in Clinical Technology (Pulmonology) at CUT in Bloemfontein, he went on to earn his MBChB from the University of Namibia in 2019. His career spans public hospital oncology and private practice, blending clinical precision with a deep commitment to patient wellbeing. At the Namibian Oncology Centre, Dr. Nel provides holistic support from screenings to symptom management ensuring every patient feels seen, heard, and cared for.

Hettie Maritz

Occupational Therapist

Hettie Maritz is a Namibian-born Occupational Therapist who graduated in 2014 with a B. Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Pretoria. Before joining the NOC team, she worked for 9 years in a state hospital in Namibia, gaining experience in mental health, vocational rehabilitation, and physical rehabilitation. This experience shaped her holistic approach to client care and ignited an interest in program development. As an Occupational Therapist, Hettie’s focus is on enabling people to live as comfortably, independently, and productively as possible while engaging in their everyday occupations. She is currently a member of the Allied Health Council of Namibia and has served as an EXCO member of the Namibian Association of Occupational Therapists for 4 years.

Marius Visser

Biokinetics

Marius Visser is the driving force behind VISSER BIOKINETICS. His services include rehabilitation and exercise therapy as it relates to cancer, orthopaedic conditions, chronic disease management, neurological disorders, corporate wellness, speaking events and workshops. Biokinetics is not only about exercising with the goal of pain relief, strengthening, movement therapy or the likes of restoring general fitness and health. Marius describes his obligation as a frontline healthcare professional as to educate, teach, mentor, and transition patients to an all inclusive healthy lifestyle; optimising healthy living through a systematic program of care ranging from pain relief, rehabilitation, corrective exercise and play. Marius is registered with the Health Professions Council and NAMAF.

Zinzi Janser

NOC Social Worker

Zinzi Janser is a Social Worker at the Namibian Oncology Centre (NOC), providing vital emotional and practical support to patients throughout their treatment journey. She facilitates counselling, connects patients with resources, and leads support groups, including the free breast cancer support group at the NOC Eros Practice. Working closely with clinical psychologists, Zinzi ensures patients receive holistic care that addresses both their emotional and social well-being.

Martha Abed

NOC Massage Therapist

Martha Abed is a Massage Therapist at the Namibian Oncology Centre’s Infusion Clinic. As the first visually impaired massage therapist in Namibia to receive specialised training in oncology-related care, she brings unique skill and resilience to her practice. Martha provides full-body, back, and neck massage as well as foot care, using touch therapy to ease discomfort and promote relaxation. Her dedication contributes significantly to the holistic well-being and comfort of patients during treatment.
